4:20 Sunday Special Interview with Ty Montana

What up?
First off I would like to thank you for interviewing me. [YOU'RE WELCOME] I'm just chillin' tho in the studio working on some new music
As a rapper what do you feel like you can bring to the table in the rap game?
As a rap artist I think I can bring consistent good music, A new sound, A more positive vibe, Versatile music, And just music that makes people feel good and know they're not alone and going through these hard times in life by themselves.
A lot of people say “Hip Hop saved my life” is this statement true for you?
I'm not going to actually say it saved my life, but with the talent God blessed me with I think the music that I put out can help a lot of others that are surrounded around me like friends & family and that is what I'm looking forward to do with my music.
Do you believe Hip Hop is dead or once was? If so, why? And how do you feel as though it was is resurrected?
Hip Hop never really can be dead, Music is changing like it's been doing over the years. Has music talents been decreased? Yes, in my eyes I think it's a lot easier for artist to get signed and to be labeled a big artist with basic music which back in the day you had to really be lyrical and bring creativity and talent to the table.
What motivates you? And/or → Why do you rap?
I'm motivated by my fans & family, Those are the first people who made me believe in my music. I always knew I had talent but being a professional rapper isn't always guaranteed in life and I was scared to go hard with it & fail. But my fans & family gave me the motivation to go at it and made me believe I can get signed and be a big artist in this music industry.
What do you think makes a rapper “great”?
I think an artist that fans can relate to makes them a great artist. Meaning the positive artist who give our world a deep message other then the one's who are mainly talking about woman, drugs, money, cars, and clothes. For example Tupac Shakur was one who always blessed us with a positive message also Nas was one of those who gave off a positive message as well.
How did it feel to first hear your music on the radio?
The first time I heard my music on the radio was when I was 16, I was living in Brooklyn, NY and I had collaborated with an artist who had a big buzz in Brooklyn. He liked my music so we did a song and he called me about 2 weeks later saying they wanted to play it on the radio. So I tuned in that night and it was really on the radio and I just got butterflies in my stomach and ever since that day I knew I could make it in this industry.

Your top five favorite rappers are…? Why?
Top 5 rappers, #1 Big L ; He was just so hungry to be the best, brought the whole metaphor/punchline flow to another level. An even tho he didn't have much time to shine before being killed he is still proclaimed one of the best artist ever to live. #2 I have to go with Biggie he was just so smooth with the words he put together is bars so nice and he never let his weight get in the way of being a great entertainer. Biggie made a way for a lot of New York Artist to get their foot in the door as well #3 I have say Fabolous, I always listened to Fabolous music growing up and he was basically like the cool guy in the industry and very flashy with his words and style. He gave me that sense of style to my music and hip hop attire, I also like how consistent he is with his music and never lets his fans down when it comes to putting out good songs. #4 I have to go with Nas, Nas did a lot for my hometown (Queens, NY) and I always loved the positive messages he would put out to the game. Nas also does a lot for African to as well but at the end of the day Nas is a very versatile rapper who came into the game hungry and showed us all that Queens is in the building as well. #5 I gotta go with Eminem for my last artist, Em is a beast. To come in the game & do the numbers he did being a white artist and coming in so hard to impact the game with his metaphors, creativity, delivery, and style is crazy. Eminem will definitely be a legend in the industry when it's all said & done.
If you could collab with anyone right now who would it be?
If I could collaborate with any artist in the game right now, I would like to do a song with Mary J. Blidge . . My mother grew up listening to her when I was younger and I would always listen with her and since those days I've always loved Mary J.
There are many types of rap from gangsta to old school, from west-to east-coast. Do you see yourself stagnant in one stream of rap or are you branched out?
Nah, I don't see myself in none of that I'm just an artist who been through a lot and I express it through rap. I'm versatile and I seen it all so I don't put myself in no category as of what type of artist I am.
What are some words that describe you in regards to your music?
Versatile, Hungry, Determined, Successful, Achiever.
Do you prefer to freestyle or write?
I do both, I freestyle a lot to get better but I think writing is using your brain more an adding more thought to your music.
As of right now what do you feel like is your best song?
Right now I think the best song I have done right now is Inebriated, but we haven't released it. It will be released on the Fly Republic mixtape coming out this summer so go look out for that.
How many people are on your team and can you depend on them to give you honest opinions of your work?
Fly Republic is my team an we have a lot of different people working with us, But I can for sure say that I know they will give me positive feedback on my music. I work with them for a reason and everyone has their own roll to play in this movement so I am positive that the feedback on everything we do will be mutual.

If you could collab with any producer who would it be and why?
Dr. Dre, He's a beast and no one can ever take that from him point blank period.

4:20 Sunday Special Interview with Trey Parker

What’s up?
Im great! Just got through wrestling with a three piece from popeyes but other than that I'm good lol.. How bout yaself?
As of right now what do you feel like is your best song? MY BEST SONG IS ALL OF EM LOL.. but MY FAVORITE ONE FOR THE MOMENT IS "NICKI" CHECK IT OUT HERE'S THE LINK! ---> http://hulkshare.com/1vrwdspixmjn
As a rapper what do you feel like you can bring to the table in the rap game?
I can bring substance! Something to make you smile, laugh, and think! Something that you can learn from! Timeless music. Yo grandbabies gone be talkin bout Trey Parker. Pay attention people!
WaveGrease.....
What motivates you? And/or → Why do you rap?The people I surround myself is what really motivates. I love someone who has strong ambition! That makes me want to work 10xs harder than whatever I expect of my self in the long run which is basically limitless. I never settle for words like "good", "great", and "perfect".I only believe in whatever's after perfection. That way if I ever fall short I'll damn near be perfect on my worst day. I'll never half ass anything. If all I got to do is mop the floor then Ima mop the shit outta dat Flo! lol...
What has the most influence over what you talk about in your songs?Personal experiences. I'm a extremely emotional person and I think that feeds my music more than anything else. I love creating music about all aspects of life but my favorite lines come from the songs where I paint a certain struggle I've had throughout my life. I love these more so than anything else probably because of the people who tell me they can relate to the message I was talkin about. There's nothing more satisfying than reaching someone deeply with your vision and words.

What is a normal day like for you?
I kick puppies every mornin! lmaoo... Naw but personally I dont think I have any normal days lol.. My life is pretty hectic. There's no time to relax when you're trying to accomplish what im aiming to achieve. I guess when I do get a chance to relax a normal day would consist of watching my favorite anime Dragonballz and listening to great music from other artists I admire. It doesnt last long though, cuz I'll just thinking I'm slipping and not grinding like I should. Basically I'll end up working on material again lol..

There are many types of rap from gangsta to old school, from west-to east-coast. Do you see yourself stagnant in one stream of rap or are you branched out? I could never be boxed in to any genre! I'm a student of "MUSIC", meaning I'm deeply rooted in every aspect of the culture. I could'nt do one thing if I wanted too! lol..My parents brought me up on all types of music. Soul,r&b,pop, country, hiphop you name I've heard it all and loved it! I'm a Jazz trumpet major in college. I'm exposed to so many different types of music that it further more makes me want to take on all of it. I might spit a cold verse and play the banjo right after it LOL....

Your top five favorite rappers are…? Why? Very hard to pick a top five emcees but I'll give dat shit a shot lol.. If a pistol was held to my dome I would have to say Kanye West,Andre 3000, Notorious B.I.G.,Eminem, and last but not least Ludacris. I respect these artists heavily when it comes to style, delivery, lyricism, and content. Now as far as new cats doin they thang In the game right now I'd go with Big Sean,J.cole, and Big Krit straight for the sip!

What does it feel like to perform in front of a nice-sized crowd? It feels like when you're at the very top of a roller coaster and you hit dat first drop! Ya know? lol.. It's really indescribable. I love getting in front of people and performing. I've been that way since I was a kid. My Mama always had me in front of people doin something! She'd be like.."go do dat dance, sang that song, cut dat grass...lmao..sorry bout that last one lol.. I would honestly say I feel more comfortable in front of a huge crowd than when I'm alone. I was built to entertain. On another note there nothing like spitting to a crowd of folk and they rappin the words back to you! Oh dat just do somethin to me! Make me wanna go kick a puppy or something!

If you could collab with any producer who would it be and why?
Kanye West! I feel that my style can't fit into a box and I know he could tailor my sound to anything. Kanye West is one of the many reasons why I started rapping seriously.
Do you prefer to freestyle or write? I prefer both. I gain different things from each of them. I love to write when I'm in a certain mood and just let the pen flow on the paper until it runs dry. Freestyling on the other hand is so spontaneous and its helps with random thoughts. I've ran across some of the best lines of my life by mistake because of freestyling lol. I encourage all emcees to explore both writing and freestyling. It's great to be good at one of two but when you master both you could become a serious weapon in the game!
What do you think makes a rapper “great”? I think giving back knowledge to the people who support your music is what makes a "great" rapper. When someone can come back to you say "hey i learned so and so because of your song" is when you can consider yourself great. Not all the greatest rappers in the world sell the most records but they do deliver a message to the people that ultimately makes us a better person.

Do you believe Hip Hop is dead or once was? If so, why? And how do you feel as though it was is resurrected? I dont think I've ever believed hiphop was dead. It may have slipped into the brinks of death but never has it died. As long as people like me breathe it'll never die. I think people get too caught up in what they consider to be hiphop. I dont have a problem with dance songs being as popular as they are but it becomes a problem when there's so substance to be found in all music. Lupe Fiasco is a great example of why hipHop will never die. Even if it was dying there are alot of cats out there such as myself who are bringing it back to it's max potential!

What are some words of encouragement you would say to anyone else trying to make a come-up in the rap-game? Stay true to yourself. If somebody tell you what you doin aint right tellem to "FUCK OFF!" Excuse my language but that's how it is out there. If I listened to everything people told me wouldnt work because it seemed too off the wall I would'nt be where I am today! People are too busy trying to find the element to being hot and what's in these days when they already have what they need to succeed. Themselves! Be yourself and you win everytime.

What can we be looking out from you in the near future? Mixtapes, singles, videos?
Look for a whole heap of s***! Had to do that censor cuz I got tired of cursing lol.. #WAVEGREASE MY NEW MIXTAPE WILL BE AVAILABLE REAAL SOON! NEW VIDEOS WILL FOLLOW RIGHT BEHIND IT OR MAYBE EVEN BEFORE! IF YOU AINT GOT THE LAST ONE "COOLA DANNA 2"

4:20 Sunday Special Interview with Rajeev W.

What’s up?
Man just celebrating the release of Bachelor Shit, enjoying that small feeling of triumph and, continuing to push that tape dude

As a rapper what do you feel like you can bring to the table in the rap game?
Im pretty good at making pasta dishes. I lived in Italy for 5 years so its definitely my favorite cuisine. Dont look at me to bring the wine though. I dont know whats good and whats not. To me, red wine tastes like grape juice with chalk in it. I wish it was thanksgiving already, I just want some baked turkey. pumpkin pie is always dope too. do they sell that all year? why dont they sell egg nog all year? it pisses me off.

A lot of people say “Hip Hop saved my life” is this statement true for you?
nahh, if anything I'd say skateboarding did that. I started skating back in 1998 and even though it got me in alot of random trouble. I know i wouldve got up to much worse if i was out doing hoodrat stuff with my friends

What motivates you? And/or → Why do you rap?
I rap because I'm good at it. I feel like its a wasted opportunity if i dont at least try to take it to its maximum potential. The end goal is to get paid though. Im not one of these idiots doin it for the love and the art. be real. if thats your goal keep it in your moms basement. I'm too old to be spending THIS much time on something just for shits and giggles you know?

What do you think makes a rapper “great”?
Aside from amazing music...Having a great presence on the mic and on stage. some people just have horribly boring performances. I personally strive to make sure you wont forget seeing me perform. Also you should probably have at least 1-2 gold chains 3 pairs of nice sunglasses and a decent shoe collection and have a music video where you at least drive a nice car. then you'll be considered great

How did it feel to first hear your music on the radio?
Havent heard any tracks on the radio but its cool when i walk in the bar and its playing or when people that i dont know drive by with one of my songs loud as hell haha

If you could collab with anyone right now who would it be?
I wanna say Jay-Z but I'm not ready for that. I wont even rhyme over any Reasonable Doubt beats yet. So probably Dr. Dre. Just have him do the beat, let Eminem write his verse, and BAM!! dope song right away!!

There are many types of rap from gangsta to old school, from west-to east-coast. Do you see yourself stagnant in one stream of rap or are you branched out?
Alot of people categorize my music as chill music and alot of weedheads say they listen to me when they smoke. Thats dope, but i could rap anyway I wanted at any given point. It just depends on what im interested in. No lie, in college I was on some odd future/eminem super crazy stuff. but now im a grown ass man im gonna rhyme about stuff like girls, realizing your dreams, and random everyday stuff. anyone can really relate to this

Do you prefer to freestyle or write?
I write for the most part. my verses are pretty well structured and i like to look at them. i dont know maybe because im left handed. oddly enough WTF Up was almost entirely freestyled. I was super sick one morning and had a melody in my head so i just hit record and just kept flowing then when i finally got better i didnt even want to change it

As of right now what do you feel like is your best song?
Ohh tough one. Probably Cash All Year, or WTF Up. Margaritas & Gummybears is without a doubt the best song to perform though. I always get the whole bar rocking with that song its just so catchy

How many people are on your team and can you depend on them to give you honest opinions of your work?
Damn really its just me and Miles. He doesnt hesitate to tell me if he thinks something is kinda weak. I tell him the same about his beats. We've been homies for a long ass time now. We've been skating together for years now, way before either of us started doing music so nobodys feelings are getting hurt here. My DJ Demo is dope too though. He's the ultimate DJ/hypeman combo cuz if im ever super wasted he knows all the words too so he raps them while i catch my breath haha!

If you could collab with any producer who would it be and why?
Dr. Dre. Used to live in LA. The Dr. is the greatest.

What has the most influence over what you talk about in your songs?
The things i do in real life

What are some words of encouragement you would say to anyone else trying to make a come-up in the rap-game?
find a new hobby or go to hell! hahaha fuck advice just do what you do. you either know...or you dont know.

What can we be looking out from you in the near future? Mixtapes, singles, videos?
Well Im gonna be pushing Bachelor Shit for a long time. Its hosted by DJ Don Cannon and executive produced by Super Miles so its amazing off top. I got a couple more videos for it on the way too so just keep your eyes posted!! Thanks for the interview and shout out all the Florida/Texas homies

4:20 Sunday Special: Follow Up Interview with Virg

Do you remember the Interview I did with The Suite Escape? Well, here’s a follow-up interview with now solo artist Virg !

Tell me something good
Ummm I just wore all black to a party. I don’t know if that’s good but it’s the last thing I did cool.

As an artist what makes your particular sound different than the next guy?
Hmmm. Well, what I think makes my sound totally different from anyone else’s are my influences in music. They’re very different, the genres are very different and no one artist is really the same. I just take the different ideas have of music and like and turn into music I love. believe authencity is key, always plus, im not just playing to capture a certain fan base. I want to make music the world will hear.

What made you feel like you needed to go solo?
There was no specific instance or situation. i just like to make music.

What is h.a.z.e?
H.a.z.e is for the world. Like a way of life. Hippies Acquire Zero Emotion. a positive message when the world needs one. “peace, love and music” Ive always been a hippie at heart because I can relate to the lifestyle.

What motivates you?
My love of music.

Did you leave The Suite Escape on good terms?
Definitely. Sean was like a brother to me before we started making music together and Aaron was my homie and music brought us all together. Sean’s, making super dope beats (shouts to the eons) and Aaron’s jammin gospel music all around Mississippi. I’ll forever be grateful to my bandmates for introducing me to my musical talent.

How did it feel to first hear your music on the radio?
It ‘s funny cause the first time I heard myself on the radio I had produced to the show, but it was awesome. It made me realize why produce radio shows, when radio shows could produce me lol. Shouts to my professor mr. sanders

It’s a year later ; Your top five favorite rappers are…?
Top five? That’s a TUF one. Everybodys rappin’ hard right now! In no particular order though Kid Cudi, Kanye West, Wayne, Big Sean and Rob Roy

If you could collab with anyone right now who would it be?
Jimi Hendrix!!!!!!

There are many types of rap from gangsta to old school, from west-to east-coast, Do you see yourself stagnant in one stream of rap or are you branched out?
Definitely branched out. I feel like sometimes if I called myself a rapper it would be offensive to rappers, like if music was sports rapping would be major league baseball and what I do would be golf. Im just a cool motherfucker with a swing.

What does being a member of the FOOT Clan mean to you?
To mean the FOOT Clan is what the name says a foot and the music industry is the body. A group of up and coming artist making dope music and making our name in the industry, almost trying to tattoo ourselves on the body. But unsigned artist is what the music industry stands, walks on. Because we’re important without us there is no hope for a future in music because there will no longer be an industry without new faces. Without the foot the body cant stand.

As if right now, what do you feel like is your best song?
“Last Stop” it’s kind of about a subject I rarely touch on but it came directly from inside and spent time on the wordplay and writing process

How many people are on your team and can you depend on them to give you honest opinions of your work?
They definitely do. But a number I really couldn’t say. But my manager and my h.a.z.e family has shown me selfless support

If you could collab with any producer who would it be and why?
@BoyGeniusbeats and @Optimuspride definitely. Shouts to one of the dopest producers out though @EXPressforever we collab the most and I wouldn’t be getting as dope as I am with this music without his sounds

What is a normal day like for you?
“smoke and make music ima modern day hippie” , I just started an internship with a marketing firm this week though so that may have to change for a while, but just a while lol

What does it feel like to perform in front of a nice-sized crowd?
I love the crowd, live for the crowd even. The crowd is the heart of music.

What are some words of encouragement you would say to anyone else trying to make a come-up in the rap-game?
Stay positive, always!!!!

What can we be looking out from you in the near future? Mixtapes, singles, videos?
Im easing into the mixtape arena, it had to grow on me because im a rocker at heart and I had to figure out a right way to combine the two without losing my own personal edge. But surely that’s coming, I scream “quality over quantity” from the mountain top. But ive been working closely with an indie label getting the feel of the industry before I jump head first into it, because with ignorance comes failure. And music is what signed up for for life so why know every essence of the trade. But ive been working on a few h.a.z.e songs to put out sooner than later, just waiting on the right time to release them

Exclusive Interview with Tennille #TUF's first FEMALE ARTIST interview !

What’s up?
Me. Neva sleepin.

As an artist what do you feel like you can bring to the table in music industry?
Well, I'm not trying to be famous, or a celebrity, I mean it. And my stories are real.

A lot of people say “Hip Hop saved my life” is this statement true for you?
I'd like to think I might be apart of saving hip hops life, even if its in the most minute way in the grand scheme
Do you believe Hip Hop is dead or once was? If so, why? And how do you feel as though it was is resurrected?
I think the message has changed and I think it has been misrepresented, but its an energy, energy doesn't cease to exist. If there's one "hip hop" artist left in the world out of a billion, then that shit is still alive and well.

What motivates you? And/or → Why do you express yourself through music?
Weed motivates me. I express myself through music because it's a challenge to me, but I feel like at the end when I execute the messages I try to deliver, whether people fuck wit my shit or not, Im rewarded. When I approach a new beat or instrumental its like a test in school, when I do it right, its like gettin an A. When I fail it tells me I have to study harder.

What do you think makes an artist “great”?

Simply being sincere. Whether they're talking politics or lemonade ice, if they mean it, and it comes directly from their stomach, not just a translation of what they think they should be doing, they're doin the right thing.

If you could collab with anyone right now who would it be?
Gil scott heron

There are many types of urban music from gangsta to old school, from west- to east-coast. Do you see yourself stagnant in one stream of or are you branched out?
I think i might be a little bit of all those genres, but I dont usually gage how strong my presence is in any of those. I do me, and if I happen to fall in any of those categories... thats nice haha. I do want to build a little more of my dancehall music though..

What are some words that describe you in regards to your music?
Ambiant, smoke friendly, gender friendly.

Do you prefer to freestyle or write?
I don't freestyle, not verbally, my brain doesn't work like that. Writing things out and making plans are apart of my ritual. I do freestyle melodically however, harmonies I can spit out off top of the dome piece..

As of right now what do you feel like is your best song?
Hmm cant really say on a permanent level, my favorite changes, I think right now today, its my joint "signs" with Like and Mibbs of pac div, I got a little bit of jazz and rap and cussin and freaky shit and pretty melodies all sprinkled on that track. And we all I feel were real honest. I like that.

If you could go back and change anything about your music would you? Why?
Nothin.. I don't think mistakes should be changed I think they should be learned from, if I changed anything I did in the past I wouldn't be who I am as an artist, and I like who I am as an artist.

If you could collab with any producer who would it be and why?
DOOM. For sure... I believe he's the best.

What is a normal day like for you?
I get up, drink tea, smoke a blunt, I usually make something like a camera or an ashtray or something equally random, Cook something, lurk on the internet, write a list, meditate in my own way, lurk around for beats and ideas to stem inspiration from, and of course write music.

What does it feel like to perform in front of a nice-sized crowd?
It's odd. I feel comfortable around large crowds, because I'm usually in another place mentally. Sometime you really have to pull an audience's teeth to give them permission to rock wit your performance. I aint mad at it.

What has the most influence over what you talk about in your songs?
True stories I've experienced or a close friend has experienced.

What are some words of encouragement you would say to anyone else trying to do what you do?
Everything you think is, is usually not. The key is to be yourself as hard as you can in the most pragmatic way. Think about what you want to accomplish, if you want longevity if you trying to deliver a message, whatever the motive may be. But nurture your art, like your in school, shouldn't need a teacher to tell you to study, especially if your studying you and who you want to be and who you are. It really isn't complicated to get all the things done you want to if you spend time and deserve it. So deserve it, and then all the other shit you need will fall into your lap.

What can we be looking out from you in the near future? Mixtapes, singles, videos?
Yesss I've got an album coming out this year, title will be announced soon, video visuals for a few of my songs as well as songs I've featured on are coming too. :)

J.Skyy
