LRA Top Commander Captured Alive

Caesar Achellam Captured Alive.
Over the weekend one of Joseph Kony's top three commanders was captured. Caesar Achellam has been with Joseph Kony and the LRA for more than two decades. He was captured Saturday by Ugandan forces in the Central African Republic (CAR) along with a wife, a daughter, and a 12-year-old girl.
In early interviews, Achellam said, "My coming out will have a big impact for the people still in the bush to come out and end this war soon."
You have made LRA violence an issue that merits global attention. Thank you for your diligent efforts. Capturing Caesar Achellam is a victory in every sense. It is proof that the remaining LRA commanders can be captured alive and it is an important opportunity to encourage members of the LRA to surrender peacefully. Visit our blog to find out more about Achellam's role in the LRA and the significance of his capture.

Invisible Children Cover the Night - Mission 4 of 5

Mission #4:
Ask your head of state to support the international effort to bring an end to LRA violence and rehabilitate the affected region.

Today your mission is to find the email address, phone number, and Twitter handle of
your head of state and use those channels to let them know why you believe it is important that they unite with others around the world to stop Joseph Kony and end LRA atrocities.

A personal note is most impactful. Check out this example if you need inspiration.
If you're from the US, take a minute to contact your members Congress as well, and ask them to sign onto the KONY 2012 resolution.
Cover the Night is tomorrow, so make sure your plans are locked in and your team is ready to go. Be prepared to document your work and send your photos and videos to ctn@invisiblechildren.com.

Visit
kony2012.com on April 20th where we will show the whole world what you're doing while you're doing it.
Over and out.

Invisible Children Cover the Night - Mission 2 of 5

It's day two of our week of advocacy and we’re reaching out directly to the people in charge of the efforts to bring an end to LRA violence.

Mission #2 – Encourage the leaders of the African Union and United Nations to follow through swiftly and responsibly on their strategy to arrest Joseph Kony and rehabilitate the affected communities.
Here's how we’re going to do it: Tweet at Jean Ping, the chairperson of the African Union Commission (@_AfricanUnion) and UN Secretary General Ban ki-Moon (@UN) and ask them to see their plan through. Check out these sample tweets:
  • Thanks @_AfricanUnion for leadership on #LRA. Please follow through and stop Kony’s crimes this year #KONY2012 #[yourcountry]
  • Thanks @UN for leadership on #LRA. Please follow through and stop Kony’s crimes this year #KONY2012 #[yourcountry]

If tweeting seems really easy, that’s because it is. It’s also immediate and public, which translates into urgency and accountability.

So get tweeting, and we’ll see you tomorrow morning with a new mission. Over and out.

Invisible Children Cover the Night - Mission 1 of 5

Mission #1 - Support the KONY 2012 Pledge

Cover the Night is this Friday, April 20th, but we're building up to it with a week of global advocacy.  We're rolling out new missions every day that will support the international effort to bring an end to LRA violence.

You have already signed the KONY 2012 pledge but we need to show our leaders that there is enduring, widespread support for this effort.

Your mission for today is simple, but important:
Share the pledge with your friends

Specifically, we are calling on world leaders to do the following:
  • Expand communications networks and other programs that help warn communities of LRA threats and provide opportunities for LRA abductees to escape and return safely to their families.
  • Provide the African Union effort with the logistical support needed to arrest Joseph Kony and his top commanders and protect civilians.
  • Engage directly with regional governments to ensure that Kony and his LRA forces cannot exploit remote areas or political discord to find safe haven anywhere in the region.
Sign the pledge HERE.  Share it HERE .

Get ready for tomorrow's mission. Over and out.
